National Screen Free week is virtually here (a few weeks!) and I are actually busy thinking and getting ready for the week ahead without any screens for our family. We participated recently and I am worried before we began how the kids could be out of control and also the week will be horribly long and difficult.

where to be on vacation with kidsAnd only then do we did it and I was surprised to find that this kids hardly noticed and I was this struggled by far the most with screen free week. Here's the cold, hard truth: to be a stay at home Mum with very young children, you will find large aspects of the day which are unbearably boring.

Don't get my wrong, you'll find parts of your day that I take pleasure in the kids sharing or playing some amazing imaginative scenario. Other aspects of the day, I'm cooking, cleaning, organizing, and planning. And definitely parts when I'm portion of the play too; reading, participating, and helping. But you will discover also staggering moments which might be endlessly mind-numbing. Like when I've watched this child perform same flip from the same couch armrest 36 times already yet still I get, "Mum, watch this." Oh, I know, I know.

Someday I will miss their constant requirement of my attention, alas, that fact isn't going to decrease the mundane-ness with the moment at this time. So, during these moments of sheer boredom, Mumma scrolls. She scrolls through facebook, instagram, pinterest, and also other blogs. I just need to have a distraction. Isn't how the sum of life nowadays, I'm not saying I'm satisfied with this - I ain't.

But I'm just coming clean here and giving even more background for why we get involved in Screen Free Week initially. It's less about them at the moment (especially as they are too young of looking after about texting/facebook/instagram, etc). My kids miss Netflix movies and shows during the week - and so they forget about caring this after Day1.

Mum in contrast, my screen free week is really a wake-up call simply to how much of playing is distracted by screens because it is easy, it's available, and it is distracting. So, entering our second year of Screen Free Week, rather then scared, I am excited! Not only for myself but for the children too.

I am probably most excited within book list I have organized for myself to read throughout the week. I got your children some new books too. My Father's Dragon: The Bestselling Children Story , Anna Hibiscus, and SuperDuper Teddy . I've also mapped outside in my planner to create an effort to target different regions of the Earth in the week. Mostly because your kids are just considering all things earth related currently. So we'll be referring to the ocean, the rainforest, trees, bugs, and also the weather for your week. I'm using my current screentime to locate science and craft projects that align to people topics as back ups to the week if anyone gets bored (ahem, Me). And we'll be having no lights at nighttime - something the youngsters like doing anyway that creates evening and bedtime more pleasurable; using candles as opposed to lights.

To get the youngsters talking about Screen Free Week, we created this list together of things we are able to do as an alternative to TV/Movies in the future. If you're thinking about, "Geez, Tab, if you'd prefer Screen Free week a lot, you will want to marry it," (haha, or do all of it the time, rather). The answer is we need to start somewhere. I do love each week of recognizing our screen dependence and exactly how it impacts our life.

We learned a year ago, for instance, that if your kids don't watch a movie after 5:30pm daily, bedtime now is easier and we've repeatedly implemented that in this regular life throughout the year. We are anxious to view what we learn in 2010 and hopefully move toward a far more creative and much less passive screen consuming life bit by bit. Are you intending on going Screen Free a few weeks too, What will you do, Do you already live a decreased screen lifestyle at your house .,
